Corydon, February 3, 2014: Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. To prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects the Wayne County Hospital and Clinic System (WCHCS) proudly supports American Heart Month. We recognize the patients, families, and healthcare professionals dedicated to cardiac care as a vehicle for a healthy lifestyle. Extraordinary people, caring for extraordinary people.

Our medical staff is available at anytime to answer questions, provide guidance and medical expertise to help individuals prevent and fight heart disease. In addition, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at WCHCS managed by Denise Sheston, RN provides outstanding rehabilitation and disease educational services for patients. National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week is recognized February 9 – 15 and celebrates the life-saving impact of cardiac rehabilitation. WCHCS also provides cardiology specialists available for personal consultation through our Specialty Clinic. All of these services are conveniently available here locally at the Wayne County Hospital.

You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:
• Watch your weight
• Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke
• Control your cholesterol and blood pressure, know your numbers
• If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation
• Get active and eat healthy, avoid salt and eat more greens

Friday, February 21st is dedicated as Fight Heart Disease Day with staff having purchased T-shirts to wear in support of this life changing effort. For more information call WCHCS at 641-872-2260 or visit www.waynecountyhospital.org.
