Corydon, March 3, 2016: Wayne County Hospital and Clinic System (WCHCS) is pleased to announce the promotion of Megan Hopkins, MLT to Assistant Laboratory Manager. Megan’s responsibilities included ordering, scheduling, managing the quality assurance program and report plus, anything else that may come up. She enjoys helping patients and working through the diagnostic process. Laboratory – Patient encounters are surprisingly brief when compared with the time spent running tests and doing the chemistry analysis involved. This position reports to the Laboratory Director.

Megan is 2003 graduate from Murray High School, and studied at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC ) in Ankeny from 2003 – 2005. She graduated with her Associates Degree in Applied Science and received her certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). She joined Wayne County Hospital in 2004 while still in school working part-time and came onboard full-time in 2005.

Megan’s interest in becoming a MLT came from the encouragement of her high school science teacher who thought this would be a field she would enjoy. Megan always liked science and this career choice was a good fit. She marvels at how much has changed since she was first in school; “Everything is so much more computerized, with computers relaying information. We used to have to do a lot of manual data entry and now it’s all automated. This helps with accuracy and certainly has added efficiencies in terms of time savings and reporting,” commented Megan Hopkins, MLT. “I’m excited to learn more about the financial side and budgeting process. That will all be new for me. We are always super busy and have a heavy call schedule. We are looking forward to filling our PRN position,” remarked Hopkins.

In her free time, Megan enjoys being with her boys Bryant 10 and Braden 8 years old. The family also enjoys their two dogs; Herky, an English bulldog, and dachshund Agnes, named after the Despicable Me movie character. The boys are involved in basketball and baseball and the family is loyal KC Royals supporters. Megan is a huge Hawkeye fan and enjoys a good concert.
