Founded by high school student James Cory in 2013, with the support of his parents, Craig and Christy Cory and brother, Cole, and their friends and supporters, the Care for Children Foundation, is a special group of young people dedicated to providing assistance to hospitals through educational items and other goods of need. There are about 20 high school students at SE Polk high School that participate in the organization. This year the group is led by Teacher sponsor, Donna Ledbetter and student coordinators, Megan DeDecker and Morgan Miller. Over the last two years, they have raised over $15,000 and provided gifts to multiple hospitals including Mercy Hospital Des Moines, Blank Children’s Hospital, Kossuth Regional Health Center, Hansen Family Hospital of Iowa Falls, Jefferson County Health Center of Fairfield, and Wayne County Hospital and Clinic System. Their current fundraising goal is to raise $10,000 in 2016 to continue their mission.
