Ward Clerk – Nursing – FT

Wayne County Hospital and Clinic System has a full-time Ward Clerk position in our Nursing Department.   This position will work three 12 hour shifts per week (7a – 7:30p) and every other Saturday or Sunday.  This position will provide support to the nursing division (Med/Surg, OB, ED departments specifically) and its patients with customer service and patient satisfaction.  This position assumes the role of secretary on the nursing unit; prepares call list and work sheets for the following shifts; data gathering for nursing quality monitors; assists patients with hospital portal registration; hostess to patients and relatives; pages Providers, nurses and on call personnel when necessary; assembles new charts; disassembles charts after patient’s discharge and sends to medical records; notifies business office and ancillary departments of admissions, transfers, dismissals, deaths, etc.; maintains clean and safe equipment at the nurse’s station; picks up all non-contaminated trash in the nursing floor and transport to the appropriate receptacle outside; dispatches messages; notifies environmental services of discharges; keeps blanket warmer sufficiently stocked; distributes mail to patients; answers patient lights via intercom if indicated and notifies appropriate nursing personnel; provides and applies patient allergy bands and Code Status armbands; attends in-service meetings; prepares copies of all paperwork necessary for patient transfers; promotes a cooperative atmosphere within the work unit.

 

Qualifications:  A minimum of High School graduate or equivalent; legible writing skills and computer skills; ability to retain concentration level in spite of many interruptions and activity of work area.  Must have an understanding of HIPAA and EMTALA regulations as well as employee and patient privacy and be Mandatory Reporting certified or obtain within six months of hire.
