Pharmacy

The Wayne County Hospital is staffed with a full time pharmacist and pharmacy technicians who manage complex clinical medication issues, critical to the healing process. The hospital pharmacy utilizes an automated medication dispensing system to provide a safe, secure and traceable medication process for our patients. The pharmacist reviews every medication order and the patient information checking for allergies, other medications that they are taking (to avoid possible drug interactions), and appropriateness of the dose.

When it is time for a patient to receive their medication, the nurse will first verify that the bar code on the patient’s wrist band matches up with the computer coded medication drawer. The medication drawer will not open if the unique bar-code does not match. This ensures patients receive the proper medication, at the right time, in the right dosage.

The pharmacy manages medications for our inpatient and emergency room population. The pharmacy is limited to hospitalized patients only and is does not provide retail pharmacy services.
