WCHCS Introduces Director of Community Relations & Clinical Support

Kara Urlis-Comer, BSN, RN

Corydon, October 9, 2017: Wayne County Hospital and Clinic System is pleased to announce the addition of Kara Urlis-Comer, BSN, RN in the position of Director of Community Relations and Clinical Support. Kara comes onboard as the successor to Laurie Ehrich, Chief Communications Officer, who will retire November 10th. Kara will also serve on the Senior Leadership Team.

Kara brings extensive healthcare marketing and community involvement experience plus, 18 years of clinical experience to this position. She will begin on October 23rd and work together with Laurie Ehrich to ensure a smooth transition. “Communication is vital in our business and we are fortunate to have Kara Urlis-Comer joining us. Her extensive clinical background and marketing experience broadens the scope of this position, and we are delighted to bring this next level of expertise to our organization,” commented Daren Relph, CEO. “

Kara has been with Mercy Medical Center Des Moines since 2006, serving most recently as the Director of Clinical Operations, Comfort Health Center for Women including the Katzmann Breast Center. From 2003 – 2006 she was with Iowa Health Home Care – Intrust as the Manager for Taylor Hospice House. From 1995 – 1997 she was with Becton-Dickinson Medical serving as a medical representative for the sales of IV therapy and safety products in Iowa and Nebraska. From 1989 – 1995 she was with Iowa Health Des Moines, Methodist-Luthern Blank Children’s

Hospital as an oncology educator, and adult Oncology Staff/Charge Nurse. She began her career with Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska as an adult oncology staff nurse in 1988. Originally from Nebraska, Kara received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center -Lincoln Campus.

Kara’s children are grown and she and her husband now make their home at Lake Thunderhead. She enjoys spending time outdoors and is looking forward to becoming involved in the community.
